Bangs, the notorious breakup haircut, are back.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, decreed so when she debuted her new spring look during a visit to Ireland this week. While captivating our attention with her all-emerald outfit (seriously, she wore green from top to bottom when she landed at the Dublin International Airport), her banging ‘do flew under the radar as she hid her trimmed locks underneath a trendy headband. Come nighttime, however, her curtain bangs were ready to shine.
Curtain bangs, also known as a Bardot fringe, were particularly popular back in the 1970s. The style is achieved by parting the hair down the middle and letting it frame each side of the face, allowing for a much more becoming style of bangs than, say, Lord Farquaad’s chopped hairline.
Since the era of free love and bell-bottom jeans, curtain bangs have made a clear comeback with style mavens including Alexa Chung, Camila Cabello, and, now, Kate Middleton unabashedly rocking them.
Kate and William are currently on a three-day tour in Ireland, where they will highlight the cultural connections between the country and the United Kingdom. The trip will take them through Dublin, County Meath, County Kildare, and Galway before their return to England.
