Chris Evans, 54, has long dominated the airwaves, becoming one of Britain’s most established radio presenters of all time. He recently crossed over to podcasts, where pretty much anything goes and it was like freedom for Chris.

I thought, ‘He’s going to get sacked for this’!

Having began his hugely successful career in radio as a teenager, moving to BBC Radio 2 for 15 years and now Virgin Radio, the dad-of-five has broadcasting rules drilled into his brain about how to behave and act on-air, knowing exactly what he can and can’t say.

But on podcasts it’s another story.

“I thought you can say anything you like on podcasts!” he told listeners during a chat with a guest.

“And you can, but people just weren’t ready for it!”

One of these people being his pal Joe Wicks, who got confused when he heard Chris swear on-air, while in conversation with rock ‘n’ roll icon Rod Stewart.

“We recorded Joe Wick’s podcast yesterday and he said, ‘I was in the car with my mate then you and Rod Stewart just started swearing,'” Chris recalled Joe had told him.

He continued: “‘And I thought he’s going to get sacked for this!'”

Remembering the conversation left Chris in a fit of giggles, as his guest also couldn’t imagine any foul language coming from the host’s mouth after all these years of clean talking on the radio.

It comes after Chris and Rod got together for a candid interview at his luxurious Essex home last week.

Chris and his team rocked up ready for a good old chat with the Maggie May singer, and they were over the moon when the invitation was extended to lunch.

Although to the host’s disappointment, he had to turn it down.

He chuckled: “I had to get back for the kids.

“Penny was the one who actually extended the invite for lunch,” he added, referring to the singer’s wife, TV personality Penny Lancaster.

“I said to Tash, ‘What do I do?’ and she said, ‘Well, what can you say?'”

But the loving dad put his family above pleasure and stuck to his original plans.

“Family is the most important thing and they know that, that’s [what] they live by,” he gushed.

The Chris Evans Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6:30am on Virgin Radio.
