Fern Britton opened up about the pain she went through after her 20 year marriage to Phil Vickery came to an end.
She spoke about the loss of both of her parents along with a family pet over a three year period but says that “there is life afterwards” following the tough time.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood for Fane, she said: "It's been hard, but there is life again. We did have three cats. I lost one of them two summers ago.
"I have had a bad two or three years. Both of my parents died, my beloved cat died and unfortunately my marriage died.
"It was a bit of a tough time but we are getting through. And it is all OK. There is life afterwards."
Fern and Phil announced their separation from each other in 2020 via social media.
The pair posted the same statement to their accounts, saying: "After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways. We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children. We would appreciate it if our privacy is respected at this time. Thank you for your continued kindness and support.”
In the interview, Fern went on to discuss how difficult it had been to move to her new home in Cornwall, specifically noting that she “couldn’t face” unpacking boxes.
She said: "There was an awful lot that had arrived from my old home and I could not face unpacking it all,"
However, Fern had support in the company of her friends out in Cornwall who helped her adjust with laughter.
She continued: “They came and helped me and they brought boxes and big thick pens and labels.
“Then at the end of the day, one of the boxes had a label on, saying, 'Sex toys to be sorted,’ rubbed out and, ‘Outdoor lights,’ put on it, just to make me laugh.”
Fern and Phil share a 19 year old daughter, Winnie, while Fern also has twins, 27 year old Harry and Jack, along with 24 year old Grace from former husband Clive Jones.
