Loose Women star Linda Robson forgot she’d had the coil fitted and it embedded in her womb. The 63-year-old TV star revealed that her doctor struggled to remove it after warning her that she may have to have a procedure to get rid of it.

Linda said she’d had the contraceptive device inserted following the birth of her youngest child, who is now 25.

She forgot it was there until she went for a cervical smear test some years later.

The mum-of-three made her admission in today’s episode of the ITV panel show.

“I had the coil after I had Bobby 25 years ago and then I just forgot about it,” she told co-stars and viewers.

It took the doctors three attempts to remove it successfully after they discovered it during a routine internal examination.

They told her it was quite dangerous as it had become embedded in her womb by this point.

“I went along to the hospital, the gynaecologist was up there to get rid of the coil, they were digging away… he did it twice and said, ‘You’ll have to come back and have an anaesthetic and a procedure,'” she explained.

Thankfully they were successful on the third attempt, she went on to say.

“Third time, it really hurt – but he got it,” she said, relieved that she didn’t require a more invasive procedure.

“I think a lot of people forget they have the coil,” she stated.

The coil or “copper coil” as it’s sometimes referred to, is a T-shaped plastic and copper device that is put in the womb by a medical practitioner.

It releases copper to prevent pregnancy and can be effective for between five and ten years.

Linda made her comments following a discussion about contraception.

She was on the show with Ranvir Singh, Brenda Edwards and Frankie Bridge.

The latter said she found finding a contraceptive that worked for her “exhausting”.

“Why is it all my responsibility? It takes two people. Why can’t they find something for men, to take responsibility for it as well. Why has it all got to be on us?” she asked.

Earlier in the week, Linda set the record straight on her supposed falling out with Birds Of A Feather co-star Pauline Quirke.

“I haven’t had a falling out with Pauline. She just does not want to act anymore,” she told Kate Garraway during an appearance on Good Morning Britain yesterday.

“She wants to concentrate on her academy. That’s all.

“There’s been no falling out whatsoever,” she went on to add.
