Mark Wright has hailed wife Michelle Keegan as his “rock” after enduring a difficult few months concerning his family, a source tells new! magazine.

The couple were recently pictured enjoying a date night in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, with Mark placing a protective arm around Michelle’s waist as they headed home.

The former TOWIE star was heartbroken after losing his uncle Eddie Wright to Covid in March and then last month, his cousin Elliott Wright’s restaurant, Olivia’s La Cala in Marbella, burned down after a suspected arson attack. But sources say Michelle has been a great support.

“The family have experienced one thing after the other. It’s like they’ve had the worst luck. Mark especially has found it really tough,” the source explained. “Michelle has been an amazing strength for Mark. He’s called her his rock and said he doesn’t know what he’d do without her.”

Last week, Mark, 34, sent a message of support to his cousin Elliott and his wife Sadie Stuart.

Posting a photo of his cousin – who was the son of his uncle Eddie – at the scene of the blaze on his Instagram Stories, Mark wrote, “You will come back stronger boy. Love you @ElliottWright_.”

new’s source added: “Both Michelle and Sadie are really stepping up for Mark and Elliott. They’re really rallying around them. It’s hard because Elliott is away [living in the Costa del Sol] so the family feel torn apart. It’s a horrible situation, which made them all realise how important family is.”

Last month, Mark opened up about the devastating toll that the coronavirus has taken on his family.

As well as the death of his uncle Eddie, his father was hospitalised with the virus before Christmas. Another uncle, his grandparents, his mum and his brother have all been ill with it too.

He said the experience had changed his perspective on life, adding: “I’m a bit too driven, I can’t say no and I work too much. I don’t spend enough time with people I should.”

Mark and Michelle, 33, have regularly had a long-distance relationship since they married in 2015, with Michelle most recently filming in her native Manchester for the third series of Brassic. But new's source claims the recent events have made them rethink their whole work ethic.

“Mark has realised what truly matters and that’s family and being with the people he loves,” the source explained.

“Michelle has been thinking about taking a pause on her work just to have more time to support Mark. It’s been such a tough time for everyone and she wants to be there for him as much as she can be.”
