Ronan Keating and Jermaine Jenas have been announced as the new permanent hosts of The One Show, joining Alex Jones on the couch.

BBC One confirmed the news on 29 April and explained the pair would be 43 year old Matt Baker's official replacements on the series after he quit in early 2020 following nine years.

Clearly excited, Ronan, 44, said: "I’m so delighted to officially be a part of The One Show family.

"It’s a show I’ve loved for many years as both a guest and a host and I can’t wait to get started alongside Alex, Jermaine and the wonderful team behind the scenes."

"I’m really looking forward to joining as a full time host alongside Ronan."

"Presenting The One Show is such a special privilege, especially in the last year – I am proud of the role we’ve played in keeping the nation company through these difficult times," pregnant host Alex, 44, explained.

Matt quit the show in March last year, leaving Alex in tears on his last day on the programme.

The presenting duo were forced to say their goodbyes via webcam, with Alex still in the studio, as Matt continued to self-isolate after a member of his family showed symptoms of coronavirus.

As well as viewers at home, Alex was left crying after a montage of Matt’s best moments from the nine years that he’s hosted the programme aired.

Matt told Alex as he spoke of their friendship: “I’ve watched your life change as well, you’ve got married and had two children. It’s quite amazing that we’ve been there together for nearly ten years. That's rare in the world of television, so thank you for all of your support.”

A tearful Alex then added: “No, thank you. And you are holding it together way better than I am.”

She then broke down again, telling Matt: “It just feels so odd. I know when you’re going to speak just by the way you breathe because we’ve been together for that long. We’ve had such a laugh along the way and I thank you from the bottom of my heart."
