Arsenal transfer boost as Real Madrid 'will put Luka Jovic on transfer list in summer' after flop Bernabeu spell

ARSENAL have received a boost in their pursuit of Real Madrid flop Luka Jovic, according to reports.

The 24-year-old striker signed for the Spanish giants from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019 for a whopping £52million.

But he has failed to make any sort of positive impression at the Bernabeu, netting just three goals in 50 appearances.

And according to Mundo Deportivo, his performance against Atletico Madrid on Sunday was the final nail in the coffin.

Jovic started his first LaLiga game of the season at the weekend as Carlo Ancelotti's men had already clinched the title.

But the forward put in a torrid display in the Madrid derby and was substituted in the 60th minute.

Spanish champions Real lost the game 1-0 as Atletico boosted their hopes of a top four finish.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Jovic for some time and are now in the perfect position to strike.

He emerged on the radar of Europe's elite clubs after a stellar season for Frankfurt in 2018/19 when he scored 28 goals in 47 games.

And while it has not worked out for him in LaLiga, the Gunners are confident they can bring the best out of him once more.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is set to be left rather light up front as Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract at the end of the season.

However, Nketiah's recent run in the team has left many speculating that he could stay at the Emirates.

Following his two goals against Leeds on Sunday, the 22-year-old said: "Any player just wants to be playing and get the opportunities.

"I've worked hard throughout the season to make sure that I was ready when I get my chance and credit to my team-mates for helping me play and do well.

"I'm just happy in the team and helping."
