The Anderson Ranch Arts Center shifted from hanging masterpieces to making PPE at the beginning of the pandemic.
But we’re told the center — chaired by Sue Hostetler, editor-in-chief of Art Basel magazine — has returned to its original mission of welcoming art students.
Next week, it’ll celebrate its 2021 International Artist Honoree Simone Leigh — who will represent the US at next year’s Venice Biennale — with a special appearance by feminist activist art group The Guerrilla Girls.
We hear that former MOCA head Helen Molesworth, the Brooklyn Museum’s Anne Pasternak, art collectors Eleanor and Domenico De Sole, billionaire Jim Crown and his wife Paula, Sarah Arison, Jamie Tisch, Lisa and Jimmy Cohen, and nightlife impresario Omar Hernandez are all expected to be in attendance at an event to welcome her.
Sessions will include lectures and talks, in-studio art-making, a dinner and a movie.
The Ranch has a series of events this summer including a talk with photographer Tyler Mitchell, who shot the 2018 Vogue cover of Beyoncé. Visual artist Derrick Adams, Whitney Museum curator Scott Rothkopf, Alexis Rockman and painter Jennifer Guidi will also be stopping by over the season.
Aspen has been heating up the art world with top galleries Lehmann Maupin, Mitchell-Innes & Nash, Almine Rech, and Marianne Boesky Gallery all hosting pop-ups in the ritzy Colorado mountain town.
We’re told a large crowd of art big wigs is also expected for this month’s Shara Hughes exhibit at the Aspen Art Museum.
