Following Blancpain’s release of Fifty Fathoms Act 1, the brand welcomes the second installment of timepieces in celebrating its 70th anniversary. As a contemporary update of the horologer’s revolutionary diver’s watch, the new model underwent five years of intensive testing and is co-developed by Blancpain’s CEO and President, Marc A. Hayek in association with Laurent Ballesta’s Gombessa Expeditions — aptly named the Act 2 Tech Gombessa.
Boasting a water resistance of 30 ATM with a helium valve, the Tech Gombessa’s spotlighted feature is actually its ability to measure up to three-hour-long immersions. Its appearance exhibited general attributes of Fifty Fathoms watches, but instead of the traditional sapphire bezel inlay, black ceramic is adopted for a more prominent and curved dial fit.
Legibility is of the utmost importance when diving underwater. The Act 2 timepiece optimizes its absolute black dial with a spherical crystal to eliminate potential visual distortion. Meanwhile, indices are coated in luminescent orange to differentiate time-related readings from diving times. Despite a 47mm case size, the timepiece is constructed of ultra-light grade 23 titanium to ensure comfortable wear with a barely-there weight.
More information on the Act 2 Tech Gombessa can be found at Blancpain’s official website.
Elsewhere in watches, Ulysse Nardin readies the Blast Tourbillon in Blue & Gold.
