Couple get married at Download – a decade after meeting at the festival

No matter how rainy it may be, lots of people are pretty pleased that Download Festival is back on this year – the first camping music festival to take place since Covid-19.

Especially happy are Lauren and Jamie Mecaloon, who met at the event, in Donington Park, Derby, more than a decade ago, in 2008.

Now, 13 years on from first meeting, the couple have used the same spot to tie the knot.

The couple, from Glasgow, had a Humanist wedding ceremony in front of the main stage, exchanging vows and rings as the rain poured down.

Lauren and Jamie are die-hard fans of the festival, so could think of no better occassion to make things official, NottinghamshireLive reports.

‘It was great and we have been waiting to do this because of the cancellation of the festival year,’ said Lauren.

The pair wore Download-appropriate attire, with Lauren donning a studded leather jacket and chunky boots while Jamie went for a hoody and a waterproof.

A wise idea, we reckon. A white dress wouldn’t have stood up well to all that mud.

The celebrant, Karen Faulkner, said she was ecstatic to play a part in the couple’s big day.

‘When we heard the pilot was going ahead, we jumped at the chance of coming here to do this,’ she said.

‘We deliver bespoke ceremonies to suit people’s lives and interests and this was certainly the right place for Lauren and Jamie.’
