Dad gives young son ‘birthday cake’ made out of 5lbs of meat with mash for icing

A dad celebrated his son's ninth birthday by creating a meaty masterpiece – a 'cake' made from tons of steak with mash for icing

He finished it off with bacon roses and a little salad – and then they scoffed the lot.

Jeff Janes, from Tennessee, US, was determined to do something Zander would never forget for is big day – so got down to work.

The weird gift hit social media this week and was shared more than 100,000 times.

He claimed women we so impressed by his steak cake that he has received a number of marriage proposals.

Dad Jeff, 39, layered four-inch-thick fillet mignon on top of a juicy 20oz ribeye steak.

It was finished with a prime rib base – and he claims the boy loved it.

He then said he been inspired to go one better for the lad's tenth birthday next November.

On Facebook, Jeff said: "It was nice to see over a dozen marriage proposals but I've got to say, I really want a woman who loved me for more than just a piece of meat.

"Zander hadn't asked for a steak cake but I had seen a video online and thought I could take on the challenge and even improve on the concept for his birthday.

"He loved it, as did my daughter Zoey and our other guests. I'll definitely be doing it again and next year I'll splurge and go with Wagyu beef.

"I had to start all three cuts at different times so they would come out exactly medium rare at the same time, along with the mash potatoes being done too."

The restaurant manager was thrilled with what he produced and the family won't be going hungry any time soon.

"My kids are my inspiration for cooking," he adds.

"They are always so encouraging and kind and throw out the best compliments. After a 10-year marriage where my part in the kitchen was the occasional breakfast spread or cooking meat on a gas grill, I felt a little lost.

"I didn't even know where things were in the kitchen. I ate out a lot for a while but then decided to dabble in the kitchen."
