A social media doctor horrified TikTok users with a video revealing the grim reason why you should never sleep in the nude.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr Anthony Youn, 48, from Detroit, shared the clip, entitled ‘Why you should never sleep without underpants’ with his 4.9 million followers on the platform.

Speaking in the video, Dr Youn says: ‘This is why you should never sleep in the nude. The average person passes gas 15 to 25 times a day, and this can happen while you’re sleeping.

‘A scientific study proved every time you pass gas you’re spraying a tiny amount of fecal material. This is true.

‘And that same study shows your tighty-whities will catch all of these particles.

‘So for the sake of your bed partner, please sleep with your underwear on.’

Dr Youn – who goes by America’s Holistic Plastic Surgeon – has garnered a staggering 8.2 million views for the viral video, which he also shared on YouTube with his 2.47 million subscribers.

Sharing the video on YouTube, he added: ‘For women – if your gyno tells you to sleep without underwear then listen to them. For guys – put your tighty whities on before bed[sic].’

Dr Youn took to TikTok to explain to his 4.9 million followers why sleeping in the nude is not the most hygienic option

The medic’s subscribers largely took the post in good humour, with one YouTube user writing: ‘As I get older, that advice my grandmother gave about always wearing good underwear really pays off.’

Another added: ‘I love you Dr. Youn, but when I am in my own bed my underwear or lack thereof is my own business.’

A third wrote: ‘Fecal matter on the bedsheets. What a delightful thought. Thanks, underwear. You’re the real MVP.’

Doctor Aragona Giuseppe, GP and Medical Advisor at Prescription Doctor, warned Hull Live that not washing bedsheets regularly could lead to risk of infection, acne, and smelliness.

He sad: ‘If you do not wash clothing items often you could be at risk of infection or just feeling and smelling unclean.
