Fashion flashback to the 2011 BAFTAs

Fashion flashback to the 2011 BAFTAs

It’s almost time for the BAFTAs! The 2021 EE British Academy Film Awards will take place over two days this year — April 10 and 11. To celebrate the London-based pandemic-era award show, Wonderwall.com is heading back a decade to see what the fashion looked like on the BAFTA Awards red carpet back in 2011! First up is a nearly unrecognizable (and blonde!) Emma Stone, who showed up in the popular one-shouldered trend. The star’s dual-hued red Lanvin gown was cinched with a chunky brown belt — also a sign of the times. Keep reading for more fashion flashbacks from the 2011 BAFTAs…

Jessica Alba was pregnant with her second daughter, Haven Warren, at the 2011 BAFTAs. For the occasion, the star rocked this bold blue Versace gown with a sweetheart neckline, empire waist and lovely full pleated skirt.

The way they were! Colin Firth and Livia Giuggioli, who’ve since split, looked like quite the glamorous pair in 2011! Colin sported a tux and bow tie while his producer wife opted for a long-sleeved midnight blue gown with a sweet bow detail along the floor-length skirt.

Another frock that seems quintessentially 2011? Emma Watson’s cream Valentino design, with its one-shouldered neckline, complete with a ruffle, and subtle pink and ivory printed lace.

Felicity Jones kept things classic in Chanel, wearing this dreamy midi-length black frock that would still be fashionable today. The halter-style design featured delicate tulle and a belt and paired perfectly with strappy embellished sandals.

In 2011, Samuel L. Jackson spiced up his tux and bow tie look with some sneakers and a Kangol hat.

Thandiwe Newton opted for a bold shade, selecting this vibrant pink Monique Lhuillier number. The strapless frock featured a subtle all-over floral print and featured a full ruffled and tiered skirt.

Always ahead of her time in the fashion department, Tilda Swinton embraced the award show pantsuit trend years before it became popular. Her black Haider Ackermann set was perfectly tailored and included gold lapels to add the perfect contrast.

Amy Adams arrived on the 2011 BAFTA Awards red carpet in this salmon Elie Saab number. The simple yet beautiful gown featured spaghetti straps, a thin belt detail at the waist and intricate beading throughout.

Dev Patel embraced the skinny tie trend in 2011, arriving in a suit with a white dress shirt and black dress shoes.

Eva Green looked lovely in all black. She topped her long-sleeved floor-length gown, which featured ruching and a semi-sheer bodice and sleeves, with a black furry wrap.

A gold Givenchy moment! Actress Noomi Rapace donned this gorgeous embellished gown by Givenchy featuring thin straps and a chunky studded belt. It also had a ruffled slit up the center that showed off her matching gold sandals.

Looking lovely in Yves Saint Laurent? That’s Gemma Arterton, who donned this strapless black confection with an oversized royal blue bow tied around her waist.

Jameela Jamil picked poppies for the 2011 BAFTAs! The actress arrived in this strapless Dolce&Gabbana design that featured a bold all-over red poppy print even down to the tie detail at the waist.

Annette Bening donned a one-shouldered Marchesa gown that included floral embellishments from the shoulder to the hip.

Dominic Cooper played it safe at the 2011 BAFTAs in this simple suit and tie combination. That super-skinny tie was a classic 2011 trend.

Keeping things simple in red? Natalie Dormer, who wore a fiery Emporio Armani gown with a low-cut neckline and capped sleeves. She added diamonds around her neck, a metallic clutch and a bold red lip to complete her look.

Helena Bonham Carter donned a gown by her go-to designer, Vivienne Westwood, at the 2011 ceremony. The dramatic black dress featured three-quarter-length sleeves, a ruffled neckline and a slit up the center of the skirt that showed off her matching black pumps.

Rupert Grint kept things classic in 2011, arriving in a black suit with a white shirt and a super-skinny gray tie to boot.

Kevin Spacey didn’t join in on the skinny tie trend. Nope, the actor paired his tuxedo with a bow tie.

A young Hailee Steinfeld was on hand in this two-piece look — a sheer embellished blouse paired with a midi-length black skirt that showed off her platform pumps perfectly.

Bonnie Wright’s printed frock — a strapless design with a bold brown-and-white print and a midi-length skirt — was crafted by Clements Ribeiro.

Neve Campbell looked beautiful in burgundy on the red carpet that year. The actress arrived in this sleeveless Roberto Cavalli design that featured a plunging neckline and a full skirt and paired well with her gold jewelry additions.

Minnie Driver arrived at the 2011 BAFTAs wearing white. The star selected a thin-strapped Temperley gown with embellishments below the bust, ruching and a floor-length skirt.

James McAvoy was on hand in all black. The actor added a black dress shirt underneath his tux, as well as a black tie, and black dress shoes for a sharp, monochromatic look.

Snakeskin was in for J.K. Rowling, who arrived in this Lanvin gown. The halter-style frock featured a tied detail at the waist, like many other gowns that night.

A pre-“The Crown” Claire Foy kept things super-simple in this strapless black number with a mermaid-style silhouette. The actress added an updo and a simple diamond necklace to complete her look.

Rosamund Pike got in on the prints trend and selected a very bold golden gown by Alexander McQueen. The halter-style design featured an all-over print, a thin double-buckle belt and a pleated floor-length skirt.
