It’s the last tolerated prejudice. But Femail’s had enough. It’s time we called out those day-to-day moments when we’re patronised for no longer being young… 

Quite a few of my middle-aged female friends fancy Harry Styles. I don’t get it, myself — but I found myself liking him more when I heard he was dating Olivia Wilde, who, at 36, is ten years his senior.

He obviously embraces the concept of dating older women (cf Nicole Scherzinger and the late Caroline Flack). And it’s a concept that in my humble opinion needs to be normalised. Whatever Emmanuel Macron’s politics are, I’m really thankful to him for having the guts to marry someone 24 years his senior.

I am blissfully happy with my partner, who is older than me (by six years) — so much so, in fact, that we will probably get married (Old people tying the knot! Huzzah!).

But if there were a parallel universe where I was single with no kids, then I would definitely — definitely — be dating a much, much younger man.

Not because I don’t find older men attractive, but because I think doing so should be every woman’s due.

And right now, in our world, it’s not.
