The story

A pair of last-place AFC teams meet on Sunday when the Jets fly across the country to face the Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

The 0-9 Jets, the NFL’s last remaining winless team, are coming off their bye week. They last played on Nov. 9, covering a 9-point spread in a 30-27 Monday night home loss to the Patriots. After having failed to cover a spread in any of its first six games, the Jets have covered in two of its past three.

The 2-7 Chargers come into this one on a three-game losing streak, and they failed to cover the point spread in any of the three. They were a 2-point underdog for their 29-21 road loss in Miami this past Sunday. Los Angeles has lost five straight November games dating back to last season, going 0-5 against the spread over that span.

The Jets’ odds to beat Chargers opened at +280 at FOX Bet Sportsbook, which implies New York has a 26 percent chance of winning.

The History

This will be the first time the Jets have played a game in the Los Angeles area since their visit to the L.A. Coliseum to play the Raiders in October 1993. The last time New York faced the Chargers was in a 14-7 loss as a 6.5-point home underdog on Christmas Eve 2017. Current Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, one of the NFL’s top rookies in 2020, was a sophomore at the University of Oregon at the time. Jets quarterback Joe Flacco, who will be making his fourth start of 2020 in place of an injured Sam Darnold, was playing for the Baltimore Ravens at the time.

This time around, FOX Bet Sportsbook is offering odds of +162 for both Justin Herbert and Joe Flacco to throw for 250 or more yards on Sunday.

The Stars of the Show

The brightest spot of the Jets’ encouraging performance in their close loss to New England two Mondays ago was the play of receiver Breshad Perriman. Taking the field for just the fifth time this season because of injuries that sidelined him for four of the team’s first eight games, Perriman surpassed 100 receiving yards for the first time in 2020 while catching his first two touchdown passes of the year.

FOX Bet Sportsbook is offering +350 odds on Breshad Perriman to rack up 75 or more receiving yards and to score a touchdown against the Chargers on Sunday.

On the other side of the field, Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen is well on his way to being L.A.’s leading receiver for the fourth consecutive season. His 103 receiving yards against Las Vegas two Sundays ago marked the 26th time in 95 career games that Allen racked up 100 or more receiving yards. Among AFC players who have appeared in six or more games in 2020, Allen is one of only three, along with Buffalo’s Stefon Diggs and Kansas City’s Travis Kelce, who is averaging more than 75 receiving yards per game. He comes into this one having scored a touchdown in all three of the Chargers’ November games.

FOX Bet Sportsbook is offering +275 odds on Keenan Allen and Breshad Perriman to each tally 75 or more receiving yards on Sunday.
