Man United fans delighted club will move to axe Cristiano Ronaldo

‘Best news ever!’: Man United fans left delighted as the club begin legal moves to sack Cristiano Ronaldo after his ‘disloyal’ interview… but demand they spend £16m saving from his wages on a new striker in January!

  • Manchester United have begun the process of sacking Cristiano Ronaldo, 37
  • The Portuguese forward gave an unsanctioned tell-all interview to Piers Morgan
  • He accused United of ‘betraying’ him and admitted no respect for Erik ten Hag
  • They aim to end his £500,000-a-week deal without paying him compensation
  • The club wanted to absorb the full interview before deciding a course of action

Manchester United have initiated the legal process of ending Cristiano Ronaldo’s reported £500,000-a-week contract at the club after the accusations and allegations he levelled at the club in his now-infamous interview.

Sportsmail understands that the Red Devils will effectively sack the 37-year-old and terminate his contract seven months early without paying any of the £16million he is predicted to earn by June 2023 – news which has delighted the club’s fanbase.

The club’s lawyers are satisfied that the Portuguese icon’s actions have violated his terms of employment, after launching scathing attacks on Erik ten Hag, the Glazer family, the club’s infrastructure and former United figures.

Manchester United say they have taken ‘appropriate steps’ in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s bombshell interview – beginning the process of sacking the Portuguese star

This is the first public statement released by United since the interview was broadcast

And it appears United fans on Twitter have joined the club in believing it is time to end their association with the forward, with many calling it ‘good news’, although some are still sceptical of where the money they save will end up.

Supporters were generally pleased at the Premier League side’s decision, with one writing on Twitter: ‘Best news I’ve heard all week.’

Another United fan added: ‘It was expected. This is good news.’

One supporter went one step further, stating: ‘Best news ever!’

Other victims of the 37-year-old’s vicious attack included Erik ten Hag and the Glazer Family

Much of the positive reaction for the club’s enormous fanbase centres around the financial implications, with some retaining some hope that the £16m can be reinvested in a replacement in January.

One fan was adamant on this, writing: ‘New STRIKER IN THE WINTERRRR.’

Whereas another was more keen to get the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s hefty salary off the books, saying: ‘Getting these wages off the books,’ followed by a flame emoji.

The interview came not long after the star left Old Trafford early in a 2-0 win over Tottenham

However while still pleased at the prospect of reinvestment into potential rejuvenation and reinforcement for a squad that have been inconsistent this season, there was some pessimism over how much of that money would go to the Glazers.

An expectant supporter stated: ‘I expect a striker to be signed in January or else the Glazers have won again by saving 16 mil in wages.’

And their sentiments were echoed by others, with one supporter adding: ‘We should add every penny of that £16m towards the budget for signing a new striker.

‘Unfortunately it’s more likely to be allocated for the next Glazer dividend.’

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner insisted that he had been ‘betrayed’ by Man United

Many fans suggested that the £16million saved on Ronaldo’s wages would go to the Glazers

Whilst an eighth fan had no doubts as to whether the financial gain from Ronaldo’s exit would be reinvested, saying: ‘That’s 16m saved for the Glazers, they won yet again…’

But there was one fan who was at least sad to see the back of last season’s top-scorer, although they were quick to accept that it was inevitable after his sensational interview, which aired on Wednesday and Thursday.

They concluded: ‘Wish it didn’t end so sadly but it is what it is.’
