Marks & Spencer has updated shopping rules for those who are visiting stores. The changes could help shoppers in the run up to Christmas.
Coronavirus restrictions have continually changed over the last few months.
In some parts of the UK, non-essential shops have been asked to close as a safety precaution.
While this will affect some branches of Marks & Spencer, others have been allowed to stay open.
M&S Foodhalls and some larger retail branches that include Foodhalls will not close.
A statement from M&S chief executive Steve Rowe said: “We are very clear that we will follow the government guidelines as laid out, but our stores will remain open.
“We’re classified as a store that is key because of our food business, and the guidelines say that, while standalone clothing and home stores will be temporarily closed, anywhere where there is food may remain open.
“So we’ll continue to serve our customers in the right way, in a safe environment.
“Our stores will remain fully open. The guidance is very clear that those stores that are within essential stores may remain open.”
M&S shopping rules
Social distancing precautions have been introduced to M&S stores.
This includes signs and floor markings that encourage shoppers to keep their distance.
Face coverings are also mandatory for all customers unless they have a medical exemption.
The retailer recently introduced a system so shoppers can reserve a shopping slot ahead of visiting the branch.
Using the ‘Sparks book and shop’ online reservation service, customers can book a guaranteed slot on the M&S website.
They will be given a 30 minute slot and can check in with hosts at the store entrance at the time.
The scheme has been rolled out across the UK in the last few weeks.
During this time, more than 125,000 slots have been booked by customers.
The retailer has now updated the system with more available times to help with Christmas preparations.
Slots for December have now been added which allow customers to book up until December 13.
Customers can book a time that suits them on the M&S app or by visiting the website.
By booking ahead, shoppers cut the chance of being caught in lengthy queues.
