Slow cooker hack makes ‘amazing’ mac and cheese with minimal effort

Mac and cheese can be tricky to cook .

There are plenty of processes that can go wrong, from making a smooth roux to keeping the pasta al dente.

But thankfully for us all, there’s a way to make the American dish without any hassle.

On Facebook, a foodie shared a recipe you can pull off using your slow cooker.

This prevents the need to make a cheese sauce or double bake.

You simply need to stir the ingredients together and let the appliance work its magic.

The home cook shared his ingredients list on the Crockpot/Slow Cooker Recipes & Tips group.

These include:

  • 450g uncooked macaroni noodles
  • 875ml milk
  • 250g grated cheddar cheese
  • 500g grates Colby Jack cheese
  • 100g butter
  • Seasoning – e.g. pinches of salt, onion powder, paprika, garlic powder and ground black pepper
  • Mum's clever hack slices cheese perfectly thin using potato peeler

The foodie also lifted the lid on his three-step cooking method – which involves mixing the ingredients, whacking them in the slow cooker and checking on the mixture until its ready.

He wrote: “This is for cheese lovers only – extra cheesy mac and cheese…

“Combine ingredients and stir until well mixed.

“Put crockpot on low and cook for 1-3 hours, until done.

“I recommend checking it after the first hour, then every 30 minutes after that.

“Mine was done after 1 hour and 30 minutes. Enjoy!”
