Smartwatches have been around for a whole now, but the most well-known ones are still largely produced by tech companies like Apple, Fitbit or Huawei.
But Tag Heuer, the storied Swiss watchmaker, has stormed into the arena with the Tag Heuer Connected.
This circular bit of wrist candy is the company’s second stab at a smartwatch and aims to blend historic style with modern functionality. As Tag puts it: ‘a unique combination of the refinement and elegance of a chronograph-inspired timepiece crafted in the purest watchmaking tradition, with a state-of-the-art, custom-designed digital experience geared towards performance.’
Starting prices for the Tag Heuer Connected start at £1,495 but you can choose different cases or straps to push the price up further if you fancy.
The watch itself boasts a 45mm case (steel or titanium – take your pick) and an OLED touchscreen protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. Inside it runs on Google’s Wear OS operating system which hooks up to your phone for displaying notifications and the like.
There’s a new Tag Heuer Sports app which utilises a built-in GPS and heart rate sensor for tracking sports like golf, running, cycling and walking as well as others.
Tag Heuer’s chief strategy and digital officer, Frédéric Arnault, has led the project since it started eighteen months ago.
‘The Tag Heuer Connected watch was designed and engineered with the same passion and attention to detail as our mechanical watches,’ he explained. ‘Quality of execution is paramount in everything we do, and we never compromise on aesthetics or emotion.
‘The Connected watch is not only a beautiful timepiece, it’s a truly immersive experience, as it now sits within a complete Tag Heuer digital ecosystem geared towards performance and sports. The navigation has been deeply refined so the product is as intuitive and easy to use as possible, both in everyday life and during sports sessions.
‘It expresses the brand in a completely new way and offers limitless possibilities in terms of innovation for the future. Thanks to the talent and dedication of our teams, the new Connected is a truly brand-defining product that will lead the way into a new era for Tag Heuer.’
