The forthcoming drama is based on Walter Dean Myers’ 1999 novel of the same name and follows a teenager named Steve Harmon (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.). The 17-year-old is an intelligent honor student from Harlem who attends an elite high school and has a penchant for film, but is then charged with felony murder and faces a complex legal battle that could put him in prison for the rest of his life.

Harrison, Jr. is joined by Jennifer Hudson as Mrs. Harmon, Jeffrey Wright as Mr. Harmon, A$AP Rocky as an artist named William King, Nas as Harmon’s fellow inmate, John David Washington and Jharrel Jerome as Harmon’s co-defendants Richard “Bobo” Evans and Osvaldo Cruz, Jennifer Ehle and Tim Blake Nelson.
