Many of us are currently in the throes of mini-break planning.

With restrictions lifting and freedom ahead, we are scanning the country for the best Airbnb and hotel breaks.

Whether its seaside views or country getaways, there is something to be found for almost everyone.

If you are on the hunt for a stay with a difference, the search can be extra challenging.

But never fear, because we think we have found one of the most special Airbnb options for summer 2021.

Located in Thurgarton, Nottinghamshire, you can now enjoy a sleepover in an Airbnb with a 10-year-old miniature Shetland stallion named Basil.

Not only can guests enjoy time with Basil but they can experience some stunning views during their stay, too.

The affectionately named ‘Basil’s place’ is situated on the grounds of a 17th-century manor and is surrounded by a picturesque 60-acre estate.

Guests at the Airbnb get to live side by side with Basil through a converted apartment that is directly attached to his stable. A doorway in between separates the two spaces.

Visitors have the golden opportunity to go into the stable and fuss Basil and sometimes, baby lambs will be in the stable too.

The Airbnb is the brainchild of Brittany Sparham, who tells that the apartment was originally a stable.

‘It became a bit of a ‘lockdown’ project for us to turn it into a mini apartment,’ she says.

‘We only finished it last October and have mostly been in lockdown since but we are finally getting into the swing of things.’

Brittany has had Basil for seven years now and says his personality is perfect for guests.

‘Basil’s usually pretty quiet during the night as he’s also sleeping – but occasionally he does like to loudly scratch his bum on the wall,’ she explains.

‘He can be really cheeky when he’s out in the paddock with the other horses and wants to play but most of the time when he’s in the stable he’s calm and just wants cuddles and fuss.’

Basil isn’t the only animal you will encounter during your stay.

‘In the paddocks, there are Highland cows, Hebridean sheep, horses, chickens and Norwegian Forrest cats. All of the animals are kept strictly as pets and most are rescues.

Guests also have access to an open outdoor log fire with barbecue grill and outdoor tiki hut and seating area.

The apartment has one bedroom (with three beds) and one bathroom accommodating a total of four guests.

If you’re keen to book a stay, we’d recommend moving quickly. We think Basil is going to be pretty popular.
