Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Buffy and Spike kiss
Buffy The Vampire Slayer is back on All 4 and Amazon Prime Video, and fans were excited to see Sarah Michelle Gellar in one of her best-loved roles as Buffy Summers. In the series, she was in a turbulent relationship with undercover soldier Riley Finn (Marc Blucas). Fans are interested to know when Riley leaves Buffy, and Express.co.uk has provided some insight.
When does Riley leave Buffy?
Riley was introduced in the fourth season of Buffy, in the episode titled The Freshman, and his character was a teaching assistant.
He was credited in the series some of seasons four and five, and he was one of Buffy’s three love interests.
Riley was described as a potential perfect match for Buffy, as he was able to offer her the sense of normality she craved.
Buffy later found out Riley was acting as an undercover agent for The Initiative, who captured demons and experimented on them.
As Buffy and Riley had opposing views about demons, they regularly fell out and it resulted in Riley leaving the series.

Riley’s character grew in complexity in the fifth season, as he realised The Initiative’s goals were not what he had expected.
Meanwhile, his complications with The Initiative put an even bigger strain on his relationship with Buffy.
He ended up giving her an ultimatum, suggesting if she did not choose to be with him, he would leave for good.
Riley had been let go by The Initiative, but he had plans to join the military if Buffy rejected him.
Sadly, Buffy was too late to make up her mind and she saw Riley disappearing in a helicopter.
Riley’s final episode was the 10th in the fifth season, and it was titled Into the Woods.
He had been introduced in season four as a recurring character, not becoming a regular part of the show until the episode Doomed.
He continued to a main character until Into the Woods, about half-way through the fifth season.
Riley appeared once in the series after he left, when he returned with his new partner, having moved on from Buffy.
His last appearance was in season six, in the episode titled As You Were.

In the episode, Buffy and Riley worked together to pursue a demon and Riley’s wife, Sam (Ivana Miličević) joins in with the fight.
Many of Buffy’s friends were happy to see him again, and he proceeded to tell them about his wedding.
In an interview at a Wales Comic Con event in 2018, the Riley actor Blucas said he was aware there were some ‘Riley haters’.
He said: “One of my best memories is Joss [Whedon] pulling me aside and saying very slowly and very clearly, ‘do not go online’.
“I said ‘why?’, he said ‘they’re going to hate you’. I think every actor’s dream is to at some point be a part of a groundbreaking show.
“What I have always said is I wish I was more experienced and mature enough at the time to know how good it was.”
His role as Riley was one of his first acting jobs, as the star was previously known to have been a college basketball player.
Blucas was one of the most talented players on the Girard High School basketball team, and he earned a sports scholarship to Wake Forest University.
He spent some time playing professional basketball in England, before making a decision to become a lawyer.
Blucas made a last-minute career change and turned to acting instead. After his role in Buffy he went on to star in the films Summer Catch and We Were Soldiers. His TV roles include True Blue and Necessary Roughness.
