Charlotte Hawkins and Ben Shephard continued to pay tribute to Prince Philip on Good Morning Britain as the pair discussed the Duke of Edinburgh’s legacy. The GMB host revealed she had once met the Queen and her husband when she was a child before admitting the Duke had told her to “move away from the Queen”.
Charlotte recalled: “I met him back when I was 10 years old in 1983.”
“When you were 10 years old, Charlotte?” Ben clarified. “You were always destined for glory.”
“I was picked to hand out a bouquet of flowers to the Queen at the Maundy service,” she continued.
“I had a bit of a different haircut,” she joked and Ben asked: “Are you the one with the bins?”
GMB zoomed in on an image of a young Charlotte standing in front of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh alongside three other children.
“I thought that was you with the glasses,” Ben remarked and his co-host questioned: “Are you saying I look like a boy?
“I am one of those children in there anyway that’s me and my ear is sticking out, which obviously delighted me in all the official photos.
“And the lovely thing is you look at that photo there and the Duke of Edinburgh actually put his hand on my shoulder to speak to me.”
“I was completely awestruck that he was speaking to me,” Charlotte continued.
“The words he uttered were, ‘You’re going to need to move to the side because you’re in danger of blocking the Queen.’”
