Danny Dyer has said he finds it ‘very upsetting’ he won’t be able to see his daughter Dani and her baby when she gives birth.
Love Island star Dani is expecting her first child with boyfriend Sammy Kimmence and is preparing to give birth as her due date fast approaches.
However, due to the national lockdown and restrictions in place because of the coronavirus pandemic, Dani isn’t allowed anyone to visit her in hospital.
While women are now allowed one person as a birthing partner during labour, it’s limited how long they can stay for once the baby has arrived.
Dani will be joined by boyfriend Sammy in the hospital, meaning other family members aren’t allowed to be there.
Dani and her soap star dad Danny were discussing her impending birth on their podcast Sorted with the Dyers, with Danny – who plays Mick Carter on EastEnders – admitting he was gutted that he couldn’t be there to see his grandchild.
‘I’m obviously a bit concerned because you’re having a pandemic kid, which rules out me going up the hospital,’ Danny said.
‘I know I wanted you up the hospital,’ his daughter Dani admitted, adding: ‘It’s so sh*t.’
Danny said that he is ‘so confused’ when it comes to the restrictions and support bubbles in place and shared his concerns that he won’t be able to see his grandchild.
‘I’m so confused with the bubbles… I don’t think I’m allowed to see my own grandchild, if Boris has his way, no. And that is very upsetting to me,’ he said.
It comes as Danny revealed on the pair’s podcast that his real name is Danial, thanks to his dad misspelling his moniker on his birth certificate.
‘She went into labour and gave birth. He got up there, obviously off his nut, and he got to do the important thing, the birth certificate, which I think you have to sign’, Danny said, joking that his dad had been at the pub while his mum was in labour.
‘He agreed to the name Daniel but he spelt it Danial: D-A-N-I-A-L. It could’ve been a mix of things – that he was battered, that he doesn’t spell. It could’ve been a bit of both,’ he revealed.
EastEnders fans are currently watching Danny’s character Mick at the centre of a childhood abuse story on the BBC One, with Mick realising he was abused by his carer, Katy Lewis (played by Simon Lahbib) when he was 12.
