Disney+ confirms fate of hugely popular show with A-list stars after first series | The Sun

DISNEY+ has confirmed that its hugely popular show Welcome to Wrexham is returning for a second season – and fans do not have long to wait.

The show became a runaway success as it followed Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as they purchased Wrexham FC in a surprise move.

Ryan and Rob landed a Disney+ documentary that followed the pair as they flocked to Wrexham to support their new team and bring them into the global spotlight all whilst navigating life being involved in an English football club.

Fans will be able to watch the next stage in their journey and all the highs and lows of the action of the last few monumental months in a hotly-anticipated second season.

The streaming giant confirmed the news on social media today.

Writing online, Disney+ said: "SPOILER ALERT. Coming in 2023, Season 2 is going to be WILD."

The actors sent fans into a tailspin when it was confirmed in early 2021 that they had complete the takeover of the club.

In a statement at the time, the pair said: "It is a special day for the two of us to become the latest stewards in the long and storied history of Wrexham AFC.”

"Together with the players, the staff, the fans, and the local community, we can now pursue our goal to grow the team and return it to the EFL in front of increased attendances, and in an improved stadium, while making a positive difference to the wider community in Wrexham.

“Wrexham AFC is only in a position to thrive because of the incredible efforts of the Wrexham Supporters Trust.

"Their members are a fitting reflection of the integrity and spirit of the town and they will always have an important role at the club."

Just last week the pair remained the toast of Wales after Wrexham FC won a long-awaited promotion back into the football league with a 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood on Saturday.

The pair — who paid £2million for the club in 2020 — partied with supporters after winning 3-1 on Saturday.

Reynolds even demanded goalie Ben Foster’s match shirt and did not care when told: “It stinks by the way, it absolutely stinks.”

Fan Cali Howet, 11, said: “I can’t believe we won the league – but we all knew it would happen. It’s amazing – I love Ryan and Rob, they’ve done so much for the city.”
