Martin Roberts has announced he’s going to appear on Strictly The Real Full Monty. The 58-year-old will take his kit off alongside a host of other celebrities to raise awareness of cancer. The Homes Under The Hammer host will perform the striptease in Blackpool in front of thousands of spectators and the risque routine, created by Diversity’s Ashley Banjo, will be shown on ITV at Christmas.
Martin has been teasing his fans about the project for months, but he has now finally unveiled the details behind the charity striptease.
In a video on his Instagram Martin said: “The time has come, I apologise for the months of teasing, but I can finally reveal that I am taking part in The Real Full Monty, yes, I am getting my kit off for cancer.
“It is all for an amazing cause, to bring more awareness to particularly guys’ cancers such as prostate cancer, bowel cancer, testicular cancer, and for girls breast cancer and cervical cancer.
“And if by doing this we get more people to go to the doctor earlier, at the first signs of any problems then this is probably the most important show that I have ever done because it can actually save lives.
“And I’m doing it in memory of my best mate Dave, who died of bowel cancer four and a half years ago who was the same age as me; that’s my [reason] why.
“But the reality is that in just over a week I’ll be going to Blackpool and taking my kit off in front of 3,000 people and I’m not particularly body confident, so this is a massive thing for me but we’ve got an amazing group of people who are all doing it together and yeah… Just wish me luck.”
“And now you know the reason, and now you know what I’m up to and I hope you can support it and maybe if it makes you think about going to the doctor early in the first signs of any kind of issues then it’s all worthwhile.”
Martin ended his candid video by showing his followers a leopard print thong, which could be a sneak peek of what’s in store for the ITV special.
The Real Full Monty will see dancer Ashley Banjo get Martin and other celebrities to take the famous Full Monty strip to a whole new level.
The 2021 stars baring all on the dance floor this year will be EastEnders actress Laila Morse, professional dancers and husband and wife James and Ola Jordan and Blue singer Duncan James.
Model Christine McGuinness, Olympian Colin Jackson, musical theatre and LooseWomen star Brenda Edwards and Love Island favourites Teddy Soares and Demi Jones will also be joining Martin in the cheeky extravaganza.
As well as stripping, the stars all have stories to tell about how cancer has touched the lives of themselves or those closest to them.
Choreographer and mentor Ashley will support the nervous celebrities as they take on a completely new twist in front of an audience in Blackpool.
Ashley will also be reminding viewers that getting private areas checked can save their lives.
Discussing choreographing the festive event, Ashley explained: “I’m so excited to be working with a new brilliant, bold and brave line-up of celebrities for Strictly the Real Full Monty.
“It’s going to be our biggest musical dance extravaganza yet and we are determined to get the message out there that early cancer checks in intimate areas save lives.
“So don’t forget to check your bits and baubles this Christmas!”
ITV Factual Commissioner Kate Teckman said: “This year we’re bringing our message with a bang by adding a huge dose of sequins, sparkles, sambas and salsas to the strip.
“They’ll also be star guest performances and stunning solos, so hold onto your mirror balls – this is strictly the most ambitious Full Monty yet!”
Strictly the Full Monty will air sometime in December 2021 on ITV1.
