Russell Myers joined Lorraine Kelly on her ITV show to discuss the confirmation Prince Harry will be wearing a morning suit for official events honouring Queen Elizabeth II. Meanwhile, Prince Andrew, who is also no longer a working royal, will be permitted to wear a military uniform for the final vigil around the Queen’s coffin during the lying in state at Westminster Hall later in the week.
The royal expert aired his disappointment at the decision.
“This is quite surprising actually,” Russell began and Lorraine agreed: “I think it’s surprising.”
Continuing, the expert said: “Because there have been five ceremonial events and I feel terribly sorry for Prince Harry because essentially he’s been stopped from wearing his uniform.”
Lorraine agreed as Russell continued: “He served gallantly in the British Army for 10 years.”

“I think he should be allowed to wear it,” Lorraine interjected.
Russell pointed out: “It’s ludicrous because he stands out even more by not allowing him to wear it and if you’ve served your country.”
“Everybody else is allowed to,” the ITV host commented.
The expert said: “I don’t think anyone would begrudge him but Andrew has said he’s going to be wearing his uniform as a mark of respect at the vigil later in the week.”
“For me, this doesn’t make sense a bit of an own goal,” he added.
“Of course, there are so many things the Palace need to think about but I just don’t think it really sets with the public mood.”
The Duke of Sussex experienced two tours of duty in Afghanistan during his Army career.
After the confirmation, a spokesperson for the Sussexes urged people to focus on the Queen.

They said: “Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother.
“His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
King Charles III, Prince William and Harry will walk behind the Queen’s coffin in a profession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.
Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward will also walk in the procession.
Meanwhile, Camilla, the Queen Consort, the Princess of Wales, the Countess of Wessex and Meghan Markle will all travel by car.
On Saturday, brothers William and Harry met with crowds gathered outside Windsor Castle.
They were accompanied by their wives Kate Middleton and the Duchess of Sussex.
Lorraine airs on ITV on weekdays at 9am.
