AMC’s wildly successful zombie franchise will continue to grow with another instalment of The Walking Dead: World Beyond hitting screens next year. The second and last season will finally reintroduce Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis/Anne, who was last seen airlifting an injured Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) to safety.

Pollyanna McIntosh reprising the role of Jadis could provide a perfect re-entry point for departed hero Rick Grimes in the next season of The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

The spin-off series is set to revisit the character several years after her last appearance in the ninth season of the AMC thriller.

Starring newcomers to the franchise Aliyah Royale and Alexa Mansour, a new teaser for World Beyond season two has confirmed Jadis will play a pivotal role when the show returns.

In the new teaser, McIntosh appears with short hair and a Civic Republic Military uniform with her back to the camera.

“I know that the Civic Republic is the last light of the world,” she says in voice over towards the end of the new trailer.

“My purpose is to create a new era on this planet.”

Finally, she adds ominously: “I hope we get to catch up while I’m here…”

It’s entirely possible Jadis is addressing Rick in this scene, considering they were escaping the horde together last time they were seen in the series.

With a trilogy of Rick Grimes-centred films on the way, it’s speculated the next World Beyond entry will lead into TWD’s first big screen instalment.

As the spin-off will encompass just two seasons, big things are expected from this year’s follow-up before it makes way for the slew of additional offshoots currently in the works.

In a statement via Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Scott M Gimple said: “We are thrilled to have the terrific Pollyanna McIntosh back as Jadis.

“And we’re excited for viewers to see how she collides with the characters in this part of the universe.”

TWD’s chief content officer also indicated the upcoming series will be integral to setting up the expanding lore of the franchise moving forward.

Season 11 of the flagship series will also conclude next year, so crucial groundwork will be laid in the next few months to secure the next phase of the worldwide zombie phenomenon.

Gimple explained: “In our story, years have passed — we’ll get hints of what happened with that fateful helicopter ride and learn Jadis has new allies and alliances.

“She is a big part of connecting the CRM and Three Circles mythology that’s seen throughout all three series. We can’t wait to share it all with fans of the TWDU.”

So, while the former TWD showrunner didn’t confirm an appearance from Rick, fans will finally get some insight into his whereabouts following his season nine disappearance.

Unfortunately, Rick’s trilogy is still making slow progress, with few updates after it was reportedly set to begin filming in spring of this year.

Hopefully Jadis’s appearance in the new World Beyond trailer is the first step to finally bringing him back to the world of The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 will premiere Sunday, October 3 on AMC.
