Strictly Come Dancing star Katie McGlynn in horror injury after booting the show's Glitter Ball

STRICTLY’S Katie McGlynn sliced her foot open by taking a quickstep towards the iconic glass glitterball and giving it a hard kick in a filming gaffe.

The actress, 28, who played Sinead Tinker in Coronation Street, thought it was plastic and whacked it after a run-up.

Sources say she was unaware directors only wanted her to pretend to boot the prop and was left in agony after smashing it.

Katie, whose bare foot was exposed in strappy high heels, was shooting social media content for the upcoming series and was fuming nobody told her it was a heavy-duty glass version.

Medics attended to her at Elstree Studios, Herts, after the blunder on Friday.

A source said: “She was absolutely raging because nobody told her that it was a genuine glass glitterball.

“Her feet were properly exposed in high heels and she was dolled up to the nines for filming.

“After giving it a brief run-up, she pelted the ball and was left in severe pain.

“There was glass everywhere and everyone was left in shock at what happened.

“She blames the staff on set because nobody told her what it was made of — or that she should only pretend to kick it.”

The source added: “The promo shoot was promptly cut short while Katie’s foot was cleaned up.”

Earlier this month it was revealed Katie, now playing Becky Quentin in Hollyoaks, was favourite to be paired on the show with pro Giovanni Pernice — with whom she was romantically linked in 2017.

It came as she vowed to give up her party-girl lifestyle after being pictured slumped in the street after a boozy night out in July.

A BBC spokeswoman claimed: “Katie McGlynn sustained a minor cut to her foot whilst filming digital material for Strictly.

“She was treated by the on-site medic who applied a plaster and she is absolutely fine.”

KATIE McGlynn has given Strictly bosses free rein to give her the sexiest wardrobe in the show’s history.

The actress, 28, is keen to shed the dowdy image of ITV soap character Sinead Tinker.

So costume-makers can devise outfits with the most plunging necklines and shortest skirts ever seen on the BBC1 dance contest.

A TV insider said: “She’s been on an intense workout regime for the past six months and more confident than ever about showing off her physique.”
