ITV reality series Dancing on Ice kicked off last week on January 16 with the first set of celebrities showing off their skills. This evening (Sunday, January 23) will see the second set of stars performing for the Ice Panel for the first time. However, not all the confirmed line-up is going to be making their debut on the ITV show.
Why is Rachel Stevens not on Dancing On Ice?
S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens will sadly not be taking part in the programme tonight.
In a statement from ITV, a Dancing on Ice spokesperson said: “Due to an injury sustained in training and on the expert advice from the Dancing on Ice medical professionals, Rachel Stevens will not skate in this Sunday’s show.”
They added: “We look forward to her returning to the show next weekend.”
This means Rachel will be making her debut on the show in the third week with her professional partner Brendyn Hatfield.
Rachel was part of the original line-up confirmed to be skating in this year’s competition alongside the likes of Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt, Strictly Come Dancing’s former pro Brendan Cole, Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor and Ben Foden.
Speaking about why she wanted to take part in the show, Rachel said: “The opportunity came up this year and it just feels like it’s come at the most perfect time.
“Starting in January with something that’s brilliant and fun, it’s such a brilliant time to get stuck into something like this. I’m super excited.”
The pop star has skated before, finding a love for it at the age of 10 but she eventually moved on to other hobbies and interests.
Nonetheless, she admitted when she started training for Dancing on Ice she was “a bit wobbly”.
She also addressed her fears about some of the more daring moves including the infamous headbanger.
Rachel explained: “The headbanger fills me with fear. I’m fine with heights but it’s one of those things, until you
actually do it you don’t know. I have no idea how I’m going to be and how I’m going to feel.
“All I know is, I want to go for it and have fun. That’s the thing. I’ve always been quite a
perfectionist but with this I really want to go for it.”
She added: “It’s about having a laugh and having fun learning a new skill along the way.”
The singer admitted she was competitive and host Holly Willoughby has spoken about looking forward to seeing Rachel perform.
Holly said: “Rachel Stevens is used to performing but I think it’s one thing performing on dry land, but for all of them to be brave enough to do it and to partake because you can’t do this by halves you’re fully in or you’re not because you can’t just go, I’ll turn up on the night’ the dedication that goes into this is huge.”
According to bookmakers, it looks like Rachel is in the middle of the table when it comes to winning.
William Hill has her down at 12/1 to win while Paddy Power has her down at 17/2 and Coral at 11/1.
Regan Gascoigne is in police position right now with 3/1 from Sky Bet and 11/4 from Betfair.
Behind Regan is Kimberly with 10/3 from Boylesports and 13/4 from Unibet.
However, all of this could change this weekend with the second group of stars showing off their skating skills.
Dancing on Ice airs on ITV tonight at 6.30pm
