Voters in coronavirus-hit Washington state are being urged to hold their tongues while casting mail-in ballots.
“Whether healthy or sick, please don’t lick!” is the catchy slogan the secretary of state and health department officials came up with to keep residents from sealing ballot return envelopes with their mouths.
“Please use alternative methods to seal your ballot return envelopes, such as a wet sponge or cloth,” the tweet adds.
Election workers also have been advised to take extra precautions during the presidential primary on Tuesday, including using gloves while opening the envelops, secretary of state spokeswoman Kylee Zabel told CNN.
Ten people have died of COVID-19 in the state, where the coronavirus was first detected in the US.
